Annual Meeting 2020 In Abu Dhabi: A Special Report

The International Cleantech Network (ICN) kicked off the new decade with its 6th annual meeting on the 14-17th January, in Abu Dhabi. Organized around cluster-to-cluster sessions, a workshop with the Solar Impulse Foundation on collaborations to accelerate solution deployment and an aim at defining the next steps for developing the thematic working groups of energy and water, the international team had a very busy and productive week. The new strategies agreed upon during the meetings will be implemented within the next months.

The team also had the chance to go on a tour of Masdar City, a planned city project in Abu Dhabi which aims at relying mostly on renewable energy sources and at being a hub for cleantech companies. The city is home to the Masdar Institute for Science and Technology, focused on developing alternative energy, environmental sustainability, and clean technology. The city also banned automobile and replaced them with bike paths and podcars (personal rapid transport units).

This annual meeting was therefore particularly insightful – in theories as well as in practice – for ICN’s members, the future of its global network and the international opportunities for cleantech solutions.
